No one can predict what lies ahead in life for any of us—it's an unpredictable adventure we simply call existence.

The harder I try to exert control over every aspect of my life, the more I realize I'm missing out on truly living it. It's easy to overlook that all our actions and structures are merely human inventions—ideas, concepts, and creations we devise to make sense of the inexplicable. We crave definitive answers even when none exist in the grand scheme.

Human beings are particularly drawn to the comfort of predictability and the assurance of knowing what comes next. Yet, reality unfolds as an enduring enigma, full of surprises and uncertainties.

While I don't identify strongly with any religion, I can certainly recognize and appreciate a genuine miracle when it presents itself in my experiences. I am not just present in this world; I am an integral part of it, deeply connected to its rhythms and flows.

I reside in an urban environment that, like most cities, promotes a worldview separating humanity from the rest of the natural world. It suggests we are somehow distinct, originating from a different essence—nature over there, and us elevated above it. This perspective shaped my thinking for a long time until global events shattered that illusion completely.

When the world came to a grinding halt, it felt like a stark, urgent message: it's time to wake up. You, me, and the other eight billion people caught up in this illusion of humans versus nature—we all suffered a decisive defeat. Reflecting on it now, it's reminiscent of those intense moments in Michael Jordan's The Last Dance documentary. You might have been in the game, giving it your all, but against such overwhelming odds, victory was never truly possible.

Moving forward, I must begin honoring life as the profound miracle it truly is. Careers, finances, and conventional notions of "success" are essentially the grown-up equivalents of childhood sandboxes—play areas with arbitrary boundaries. This doesn't mean I'm abandoning everything to retreat into the wilderness. Rather, it means acknowledging these pursuits as games, which allows me to stop treating them with such intense gravity.

If the current game no longer appeals to you, or if its rules feel unjust and frustrating, consider stepping away. Choose to engage in activities that bring you joy. Seek out or even invent the games that align with your passions. This mindset isn't a justification for quitting at the first sign of difficulty—on the contrary, anything truly worthwhile demands significant effort and perseverance. The key is to invest your energy wisely, in pursuits where the challenges match the potential rewards.

After all, our time on this earth is fleeting. Why squander it on games that hold no real meaning or fulfillment for you?

This moment offers an ideal opportunity for deep reflection and realignment.

As you look toward the year ahead, what new games or pursuits will you embrace? Equally vital, which ones will you choose to leave behind? Taking time to ponder these questions can lead to greater clarity and purpose in your journey.
